Take Me Away to the Poconos…

A few fun and unique places to consider visiting during your stay

I can recall the feeling I would get when we arrived at our cabin in the Poconos…fresh mountain air and the feeling of leaving it all behind. Wherever you are visiting from (the suburbs of NJ, bustling Manhattan, etc.). I hope that your vacation to the Poconos will give you a similar feeling.

I have highlighted a few fun and unique places to consider visiting during your stay:

1. Boulder Field in Hickory Run State Park

The boulder field is about 16 acres in size and spans nearly 1,800 feet at its widest point. The uniqueness of this field led to it being one of 27 spots in Pennsylvania that is named a National Natural Landmark.

In addition to the boulder field, Hickory Run features some incredible hiking trails. I recommend Shades of Death Trail and gorgeous Hawk Falls. If you bring children, look for a geocache-they will love the adventure! I recommend checking out the new Visitor’s Center which has maps, guides and public restrooms. The Center includes a 2,400 sq. foot exhibit lobby that orients the visitor to the natural wonders of the park.

2. Bushkill Falls-Bushkill

Bushkill Falls is known as the Niagara of Pennsylvania. It consists of eight waterfalls, the tallest towering at 100 feet.

At Bushkill Falls you can hike through scenic trails, be a gold miner for a day, visit the children’s playground and much more.

3. 940 Golf N’ Fun

Nothing screams summer more than a round of mini golf and ice cream at 940 Golf N’Fun. When I see that they are opened for the season, I know that summer is coming!

Activities include miniature golf, an arcade, ice cream, batting cages, bumper cars, paintball and a driving range. There is no admission fee, and they offer “fun packages” for discounted rates. The ice cream is delicious-I recommend the expresso chip-yum.

4. Carroll & Carroll Booksellers

I love books so whenever I’m on vacation I look for a local bookstore. Carroll & Carroll sells new, used and rare books. The store has lots of character and history. You will find piles of books to browse through.

There is a Starbucks directly across the street if you enjoy sitting in a coffee shop and reading like I do. If you prefer a more quaint, locally owned coffee shop try Café Duet at 35 N 7th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

5. Blue Ridge Estate Vineyard and Winery

I hesitated to write about Blue Ridge as I plan to dedicate a future blog to wineries in the Poconos. However, I love this place so much that I decided I shouldn’t limit how many times I write about it.

Blue Ridge Winery is a beautiful estate located in rustic Saylorsburg, PA with a grand entrance. I always feel excited as I make the drive up the hill that leads to the estate. The winery has expanded over the years and now offers many food options along with their large collection of wines. Some options include Rogue Tacos and Catering and brick oven pizza. Be sure to check out their website, https://www.blueridgeestatewinery.com/ before you go. They offer special events such as Friday Night Dinner and an Underground Experience (a special dinner 14 feet beneath the earth) which is on my bucket list.

The winery gets very busy, especially on the weekends. I recommend arriving when they open and securing a seat. Speaking of seating, there are many options which include inside the estate, lounge areas outside and small tables with chairs near the vines. They frequently have live music and children and dogs are welcome. You can also bring your own food, but I recommend their on-site options.

Most of the times I have visited, I see the founder and owner, Randy, walking around and greeting guests. Randy is always upbeat and I love his motto which is simply…enjoy life! His mission when he created this special place was to add value to others. He has certainly done this for me. I love a sweet white wine so my favorite is called…inspiration.
